What is one quote that defines you and why?
French romantic painter Eugene Delacroix once said, “What moves those of genius, what inspires their work is not new ideas but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough.” Delacroix’s quote epitomizes who I am as a writer – one obsessed with endless words and original expression.I have built my life upon the fundamental elements of God, family and music, but my ultimate passion and career goal has always been writing. How do I define myself? I’m a writer. What do I want to do? I want to write. What are my hobbies? Writing. While I enjoy times at Starbucks with friends or playing a perfect marching band show, I find my greatest comfort in writing. Every time I begin to write I feel a spark and some goose bumps because, as Delacroix suggests, I am on the verge of saying something that has never been said before. Even when I write poetry or philosophical journals that are not for an audience, this potential for newness and change exhilarates me like nothing else. The challenge to say what no one has said before, to explore the infinite beauty and possibility of language, defines me. I strive for originality; I strive to inspire epiphany and to say it all. I am challenged to live as I write.
